These are my own photos from my Flickr account. Most of my pictures are uploaded directly from my mobile phone. Those that I want to I then tag with the approximate longitude and latitude of where they were taken.
Google also provide an API for their Google Maps service. Combining these services allows you to plot the location using Google Maps.
This is known in the trade as a 'web 2.0 mashup'. In other words a bunch of code mashed up to produce something vaguely useful from other websites. This is a very simple example. Other organisation providing web 2.0 services include Amazon, eBay, YouTube, FaceBook or any big interweb company you've heard off in the last 5 years.
Its all the rage these days...
I often use the Google Maps API to provide simple location maps for my clients, although a hell of a lot more could be done with it.
